Community solar is the honey badger of clean energy by Paul Gerke for FactorThis

Its clear that the current adminstration is doing just about everything in their power to slow down solar and wind projects. Despite these challenges (or headwinds if you prefer the finance-speak), community solar projects to generate more 14 GWs ( a whole lot of β˜€οΈ) by 2029! And theres legislation being passed in both progressive and conservative states to support these projects.

β€œIt’s safe to say that all community solar companies operating in the U.S. would like to see more federal support. They’d also prefer the tariff seesaw stabilize soon and would appreciate a few more state-level legislators who recognize the value in distributed energy.

But if none of that comes to pass? Honey badger don’t care.”

”Forever Chemical” is added to The Cambridge Dictionary

In what can only be described as a β€œsign of the times” the Cambridge Dictionary (the fancy folks tasked with maintaining the King’s English) have added the word β€œforever chemical” to the dictionary. We coming for you PFAS. 🫒

An Environmental Justice Mayor

The 19th has an excellent feature on Carletta Davis, a native of Prichard, AL, a city in Mobile County of ~18k. Davis has felt the whiplash of the last year more than most, where she went from attending the Environmental Justice Summit under the Biden administration to being on the frontlines of seeing the real-time impacts of the dismantling of federal protections that are especially needed when local governments are captured by industry or local leaders devalue the lives of those they deem as β€œother”. Prichard residents are particularly challenged by their water and sewage infrastructure with residents facing high water bills and water contamination with carcinogens. Furthermore, organizations also lost significant amount of federal funding from the current administration actions.

Undeterred, Carletta Davis is mounting a campaign for Mayor of her hometown with an explicit focus on elevating environmental justice issues and boldly fighting for her community. She's going up against 8 other candidates with the election taking place on August 26. We know that we always got us.

Major salute to soon-to-be 🀞🏽 Mayor Davis. 🫑
