Hey Folks! As I write this, the Senate is on the verge of passing a spending bill so egregious that even Forbes is calling it out for how regressive it is. Is this what Travie McCoy & Bruno Mars had in mind?
Despite, and frankly because of the foolishness, our work continues.

The Senate Budget Bill Is Growing More Regressive by Howard Gleckman for Forbes
The Forbes article speaks to how this bill is a handout for the very wealthy, stating that households making $35k (< 1% of income ) or less would get a tax reduction of $150-$160, those making $217k+ would get a $12,500 reduction (0.4% of income), while those making $460k - $1.1M would ~$21k reduction (4.4% of their income).
A Class-Action Lawsuit Aims to Restore Climate and Environmental Grants by Amy Green for Inside Climate News
As many of you reading this firsthand have experienced the chaos of the current admin revoking funding for environmental justice and climate, a group of leading climate litigation firms such as Southern Environmental Law Center, Earth Justice, and Lawyers for Good Government are representing 350 organizations in a class action suit against the EPAβs actions. From the article:
βPeople were disillusioned before we got these grants. This area has a very long history of being extracted from, being overlooked, being looked down upon, and our organizationβespecially my teamβhas spent several years working with these counties to build up trust,β Kelly said.
βIf you cannot count on an awarded grant from the federal government, who can you count on?β she said. βThat is supposed to be the most reliable source that you can get. So people, I think, felt foolish and as if their time had been wasted and like, if this wasnβt going to happen thereβs not going to be anything else coming down the pipeline.β

Donβt you mean June-teenth?Enslaved people in St. John the Baptist Parish were not legally emancipated until July of 1864βmore than a year and a half after the Emancipation Proclamation- when Louisiana officially abolished slavery. While most communities across the United States commemorate Juneteenth as a symbol of freedom, Julyteenth will be The Descendants Projectβs annual program at Woodland Plantation that honors those who were excluded from emancipation by the U.S. government. Over 400+ current and former EPA staffers released an open letter critiquing the current actions of the administration. Their boldness and speaking with one voice is encouraging and reminds me of the words of Audre Lorde.
βToday, we stand together in dissent against the current administration's focus on harmful deregulation, mischaracterization of previous EPA actions, and disregard for scientific expertise.β

βI was going to die, if not sooner than later, whether or not I had ever spoken myself. My silences had not protected me. Your silence will not protect you.
What are the words you do not have yet? What do you need to say? What are the tyrannies you swallow day by day and attempt to make your own, until you will sicken and die of them, still in silence? We have been socialized to respect fear more than our own need for languageβ¦.
And at last youβll know with surpassing certainty that only one thing is more frightening than speaking your truth. And that is not speaking.
