Vibes: The Next 250 โฉ
It would be an understatement to say that the vibes for the marking of 250 years of the US, have been...strained. I'll spare you my specific takes on why this is (i'm sure y'all already know) is and instead - I'll share what I'm doing with this tension.
It's challenging me to reflect on how our ancestors handled such moments in the past and to contemplate what sort of ancestor do I want to be?

When I think about where we can draw wisdom to reflect on these times, Dr. King's words and the actions of him and the broad coalition of folks whose names we'll never know. They engaged in direct action to call to light the existing tensions in America - in order to confront it and create the country we deserve.
Check out these words from Dr. King shared on April 16, 1963
"Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creative tension that a community that has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks so to dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored. I just referred to the creation of tension as a part of the work of the nonviolent resister. This may sound rather shocking.
But I must confess that I am not afraid of the word tension.
I
have earnestly worked and preached
against violent tension, but there is a
type of constructive nonviolent tension that is necessary for growth.
Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half-truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, we must see the need of having nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood.
